Hazard Communication (HAZCOM)

Course Overview

The Hazard Communication (HAZCOM) course equips participants with the knowledge and skills required to identify, evaluate, and control chemical hazards in the workplace. In line with OSHA’s Hazard Communication Standard (29 CFR 1910.1200), this course covers chemical safety, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), labeling systems, and hazard communication programs. By the end of the course, participants will be able to promote a safer working environment through informed practices and regulatory compliance.

Module 3: Labeling Requirements

  • Overview of the Globally Harmonized System (GHS)
  • Components of labels including product identifier, signal words, hazard statements, and precautionary statements
  • Examples of label formats

Module 4: Safety Data Sheets (SDS)

  • Importance of SDS in hazard communication
  • Structure of SDS (16 sections)
  • How to read and use an SDS effectively

Module 5: Implementing a Hazard Communication Program

  • Key components of a HAZCOM program
  • Roles and responsibilities of employers and employees
  • Training requirements and record keeping

Module 6: Employee Rights and Responsibilities

  • Employee rights under OSHA HAZCOM regulations
  • Right to know and access hazard information
  • Employee responsibilities in hazard communication

Final Exam
